Peer Navigator – Carers of Adults
Are you a carer that would like to empower other carers?
We are looking for carers to join our new project which aims to build a network of Peer Navigators who will support and empower fellow carers in navigating the social care system!
About Access Social Care
Every day millions of older and disabled people are denied the social care they need. Most local authorities cannot meet the growing demand for care, and none are confident they can meet their legal duties in the future. This affects all of us - we will all need social care at some point in our lives.
We all have a right to hold public bodies to account, but most of us cannot afford lawyers so rely on legal aid. The 92% drop in legal aid cases since 2010 means that we have nowhere to turn. Without access to justice, our rights do not exist. The rule of law is broken.
About the roles
Carers often tell us how lonely, confusing and frustrating it can feel when they are trying to access information or support for themselves or the people they are helping to care for. To help with this, we are developing a new project and a network of Peer Navigators who will work alongside us to support and empower carers to better navigate the social care system. Peer Navigators are carers with personal experience who can provide empathy, and share understanding, knowledge and resources with other carers in their local community.
As a Peer Navigator, you will collaborate with Access Social Care to achieve our project goals:
Identify and link with carers of adults online and / or in your local community
Help carers to understand their own rights and access appropriate support
Help carers to understand the rights of the person they are caring for and access appropriate support
Better understand the specific issues that cause carers and the people they care for to be marginalised and excluded from support
